I just finally got my '98 SVT Contour running after a new clutch job. After about 10 starts and probably 20 miles, the car stopped starting. The starter would just "whirl". Took the starter off to test and the ring gear is completely off the flywheel. I didn't even know this was possible.
My question is what could of been damaged during this? What are the chances of the ring gear damaging the flywheel? Looking on the Ford parts website, I can order a replacement ring gear for 18$-ish. Should I replace just the ring gear, or should I just get a new flywheel assembly?
