We'll have to go down there one night next month. I was reading on the raceway's website and fire jackets and helmet's are required for f/i does that include nitrous?

azbobby can you find out when you go friday?

We'd probably be better off going to Speedworld when you get here. I think it's better than Firebird for amateur night because:

1) The track is usually prepped better than Firebird (good launches)
2) Loads less people at Speedworld (as many runs as you can handle vs 3-7 runs)
3) I think the track workers are more cool -- willing to help if you need it

I'm sure there's more... just can't remember. Item #1 has been that way as long as I can remember. In the early 90's I ran my '85 Z-28 at Firebird and couldn't get any traction until 3rd gear. Everyone told me to go to Speedworld as (they claimed) it's .2 secs quicker, but I never did. With the Contour at Firebird, I spin or bog or other nastiness.... never really had that bad of a launch at Speedworld... and, in fact, I somehow got the 2nd fastest '60 time for a Contour recorded on this site and at dragtimes.com. And that was on street tires.

At Fireturd, yes, you have to have a fire jacket when using any aftermarket power adder. I actually have to add a battery cutoff switch to my car by Friday night, because of me relocated battery. Speedworld is alot less strict about tech, so that may be your best bet when you get here.

For our cars, we don't also need to cut the alt, right? From what I recall... if I pulled the neg wire off the battery, the car died. Just wanted to make sure I'm remembering correctly and that was normal.

I was under the impression that the alt needed to be wired up seperately. Thats how I wired mine up last night.

2 seperate wires

Battery -> Cutoff switch -> Distribution block < Fuse block/starter
Battery -> Alternator

Remove wire running between starter/alternator. From what I remember, if you don't isolate the alternator, you can cut off the battery all you want, but the alt will continue to provide the fusebox/ECU with power, thus not actually shutting the car off in the event of a crash and you are incapacitated.

hmm... I'll have to do an intentional "live" test. My accidental test was the neg wire not being tightened... it came off and my car died. What I wasn't sure about was if it just freaked the ecu out and it shut it down... or if it truly cut the power to the ecu.

I know older cars can run without a battery in the car (jump it and run off the alt) but thought ours ran off the battery.
