please vote for your choice
  1. meet in Enfield, CT around 10 am or 12 am and drive down to the Essesx Steamtrain for 11:30 or 1:30 leaving time to look around, get lunch and tickets, train boat lasts for 2.5 hours, then either hang out along the shore and get dinner or return to Enfield for dinner
  2. meet in Enfield at either 9 am or 11am, take a sceinic/drivers drive for 2 hours and take the 12:30 or 2pm train which would last 2.5 hours, again remain along the coast or return to Enfield for dinner
  3. meet at the Steamtrain then either stay along the coast or return to Enfield for dinner.
  4. other ideas
notes: Enfield is about an hour from Essex by the highway
the 2 hours drive is about 1:15 of scenic, good driving back roads, then highway the rest of the way - roads are in good shape and Mirko friendly

I have space for a few people, maybe 2 or 4 that can sleep on the floor if they would like to come down the night before

yeah that is a good idea but the fall meet has always been about driving and often stopping somewhere ... so that is what I would like to do

Brian has invested a lot of time into getting this together for us.
In the past, we have typically always gone with some sort of attraction/event to add on to the drive and meet up. It gives you more of that New England fall experience, while still incorporating the fun of a NECEG meet and a great cruise in the twisties for such great cars.
Maybe I'm just being an old timer hell-bent on tradition, but why mess with a formula that has pleased everyone year after year? A hang out meet can be done any time of year.

Huge props to Brian for trying to stick with that tradition and still be open to everyone's suggestions.

If you guys don't want to do the boat/train, then don't. Have your scenic parking lot meet while the rest of us traditionalists enjoy the full package, or formulate your own meet entirely. OR wait until next year and step up with your own agenda for the meet.

It's not easy organizing a fall meet with a scenic cruise, and please everyone at the same time.
Just be thankful it's not being held in NH again. ;) :p

I didn't mean to offend anyone at all. I know that Brapple has put a lot of time into this and I appreciate that. I was just simply providing my input just as we were asked.

Tradition is fine with me. I am new here so I haven't learned all the traditions yet. I was just throwin somethin out there that would be cheap, fun, and still provide the New England experience.

Whatever everyone wants is fine with me and hopefully I will be able to attend.

sorry I guess there was some miss understanding about what option 4 was about ... I meant it to be any other combinations of what I had listed above

don't get me wrong, meeting up somewhere in a park and cooking out and enjoying the day is a great idea, but one more for the spring or summer in my mind ...

but as Kim said, the Fall Meet has always been about driving and stopping somewhere, I want to follow this idea ...

05 was that park in MA
04 was the caves in NH
03 was the Budweiser plant
02 was Wachusett Mountain
01 was also Wachusett but I wasn't there so I am not sure

and some great drives to go with that ...

Also if you don't want to ride the steam train/riverboat that is your option, I know it is a little pricey, I felt that way when I went down a few weeks ago but I will say it again it is well worth it, check out some photos I took. And remember we have a choice of two nice non-chain restaurants to eat at

wanted to add these so that people know what I have planned

first up the scenic drive, it was about 1:15 minutes of back roads and 45 minutes of highway down to Essex .... Enfield is point 1 and Essex is point 6 and the route is in green ... points of interest in the area Gelette Castle, the CT River Ferry, casinos ...

the option is driving straight from Enfield to Essex, about 1 hour down the higway ... again the route is in green ...
