How do I strip the precats, Can someone please help I just bought the car and I love it just as much as I love my mustang. Can someone please send me some instructions with details! THANK GUYS!

Correct me if I am wrong but gutting your precats removes the huge restriction of the catalyst and honeycomb structure. Opening up two major restrictions in your exhaust. I would assume you would get some gain. I noticed a difference when I installed my headers. I know headers aren’t a great comparison but there has to be some what of a performance increase due to the removed restriction.

yes and no ... you need exhaust velocity and when you remove the cat material you leave a big open hole that will slow cause bad exhaust gas flow ... headers remove the resitriction but don't open up to slow exhaust flow ...

Based on everything I have read on the boards...

Gutting your pre-cats really doesn't add power unless they are clogged or not working at maximum efficiency(sp?).

Basically, some people notice small gains because theirs are clogged, but to say they flow as well (or even half as well) as headers is rediculus IMO.

This is not what I was getting at in my post.

I know what your getting at in your post. Which is that there "has to be" some gain by removing the honeycomb material in the precats because it is "blocking" flow.

My post still stands, being that you'd think you'd gain something but the results that I've read on here, seem to say that the gutting only adds power if you were lacking because of clogged pre-cats.

Remember that it has been shown that removing the main cat on an svt has shown a power decrease when replaced with straight pipe. You would think it would flow better because of less of a restriction, but thats not what happened. In theory your post makes sense, when applied though, there are mixed results.

The restriction from modern catalyst material is minimal, you can look right through it. It's like a bundle of straws, very little restriction of airflow. When you gut the precats you have now opened up that 'chamber' that the cats were in. That big, open hole creates turbulance and slows the exhaust pulses down - a lot.

There are no gains to be had from gutting, I've done it twice. The sound is almost the same - not a noticable difference unless you're looking for it. If you want performance or sound increases, header set is your choice. Period.
