I am in the middle of my 3.0L (2005, 20K, Taurus) swap and am trying to decide on which oil pan to run ... Taurus vs. Escape.

Let me know if I am correct on what I have read...

Escape pan: Bolts right up without any modification and doesn't leave 2 open bolt holes? Also, they come with a gasket built into the pan eliminating the need to purchase a 'new gasket' when installed? This setup is more ideal and costs more because of purchasing an additional escape pan?

Taurus pan: Fits but must either run 2 bolts down or drill 2 new holes to bolt it up? Are there any clearance issues with this pan as it looks like mine is a lot lower than the 2.5L.

Thanks for you insights. :o

No clearance issues on the taurus pan. Its been a while since I installed an escape pan so I'm not sure on the gasket but i do remember that my 2 bolts wouldn't go in my escape pan. It was 05 when I built that 3L & I've had a few that I have ran the taurus pan on without the 2 bolts, & none of them have given any issues yet.

you are correct, the taurus pan will fit fine but you will not be able to use the 2 bolts that go throught the oil pan into the transmission.

the escape pan has a built in seal and is baffled. it will bolt right in and all bolts can be used.

also you might need the oil pick tube also. the taurus pan is deeper and has a deeper pick up. bottom line match the pick-up to the pan. Also I do believe the 05 taurus could have the same pickup as the escape/2.5L engine. I have seen one that did and one that didn't.

I just finished an 04 3L swap and I kept my taurus pan. just use aluminum block plate to locate 2 lower trans holes took some finagling but I was able to bolt up to transmission... I think the real plus is I never had to remove the oil pan one less thing to open up.... it is working great and no clearance issues

Does the Escape pickup tube mount up using the same stud as the Taurus tube?

If you use the Contour tube you have to replace some crank bolts to get the correct stud configuration. The Crank bolts are torque to yield, if you loosen them you replace them.

the escape pick up tube does not have the support bracket like the stock 2.5L one. it bolts right in place.

i should note that the taurus one that was on the engine didn't have a support like the stock 2.5L one did either.

Taurus/Sable pan Needs the Taurus/Sable pickup. Otherwise you risk cavitating the pump at higher rpm levels since the pan is slightly deeper. (has smaller sump so volume is the same)

Tech note: DO NOT be foolish and bend or modify a pickup tube. They are cheap. Buy the correct unit be it stud change 3L (late 00+) or by just "re-using" the Taurus/Sable unit with matching pan.

so bottom line is Taurus/sable pan Taurus pick up tube and Escape pan Contour tube? sorry you guys got me confused.
