ok this is probably a really dumb question but what it the green thing inside the filler neck on my contour... i just got the car a few days ago and have not had to fill it yet and i was just looking around at car a little closer and i have never seen that on a ford before

I've never seen or heard of such a thing. Perhaps it's the end of something a PO put in there to keep the flapper valve open.

Post a pic.

it looks like this... flex fuel maybe idk there is no sticker on the gas door

Not a CNG, it's just a vent to gives the fumes a place to go when you fill up. If it wasn't there, the pressure in your gas tank would increase as you filled up.

That's my theory:laugh:

i just thought that it was strange that it was green, i mean why not black idk never seen a car like that before

double sorry my comp didnt show the first one:shrug:

...what it the green thing inside the filler neck...

I was going to say perhaps an old pack of Salem cigarettes from the previous owner, but having seen the picture, I can see that it's not.

My SVT has no such piece. Kind of different.

its just the tank vent. the pre98s were like the picture while the 98+ the vent connected via a rubber hose back by the filler door hinge.
