Driver's window afraid of heights

The driver side front power window on my '96 LX will no longer go up, as of about a week ago (coinciding with a week of temps near or above 100F). It had always worked fine but the day that it stopped working there was a click sound when it reached the top before I drove to work. After work, it would not roll up at all. It still makes a noise when I press the button. I can pull it up but it doesn't stay up for long. It rolls down fine, but gravity may have the major role in that.

Is my regulator dead, or has a cable come loose/off track, or is it something else?

Tore the whole assembly out and found the problem. The green plastic piece that holds back the cable housing broke and got pulled into the motor. The cable then slipped off of the pulley and cannot be put back on. I found an aftermarket regulator by Dorman on ebay. Has anyone used them?

Edit: I found a way to make it rain after three weeks without a drop and 95+ temps---remove your car window. Usually I just go on vacation.

This EXACT problem occurred to me over the weekend -- passenger side front window. Terrible griding noise if you 'try' and lower/raise it. I also found that I can move the glass 'fore and aft' - with the palms of my hands 'sandwiching the glass' - without much trouble. I have left that window UP and may attempt a fix (via the FAQ) this weekend.
