Dreaded P1518 on Duratec

Yep

Yep

Well I pulled this engine and there was an 04 there as well and that thing looked 6k times worse than my SVT engine did.

Actually, that 04 engine looked like a oil sludge spill under the valve cover!!!
I've not seen anything that bad in an engine since the Ford oil change commercial last year...

Today I found the linkage out of the clip and the entire clip missing. So I replaced the clip, reinserted the linkage and thought my power loss issue was going to be resolved. NOT!!!. Is it safe to assume the IMRC box need to be replaced (as in the secondaries are not opening??) Does this box control it? Is it soley a dealer item? Being quoted North of $300.00 Yikes!!!

If the engine is in good condition, and top tier fuel (Chevron Premium) consistently used; what causes these to become "dirty" and require cleaning as previously described???
This is pretty typical port appearance for a moderate miles Duratec, this was mine at maybe 70K miles. Can you tell which port has the fuel injector? This car has had Redline SI-1 injector cleaner religiously in the fuel tank since Day One, and I've owned it since Day One.

A hyperactive PCV system combined with EGR seems to cause the intake deposit buildup. Installing a coalescing oil trap in the main PCV line to the intake seems to help, I did this some time ago and it has greatly reduced the buildup of PCV related gunk on the back side of the throttle plate, but I haven't had the intake apart again to see if things have stayed decent after I cleaned it all out some time ago.
