Has anyone installed a double din radio in the lower part of a pre-98 console without doing a ton of fiberglass work?

Below the factory radio? I don't think anybody has done it that I can remember. Steeda glassed one into the factory opening and moved the HVAC controls next to the parking brake. You wont be able to access much in 1st, 3rd, or 5th.

I saw that thread while researching.

I can't move the AC controls down to the e-brake, as I use that area for misc switches that I don't want to relocate.

When I got the black car, the radio (single din) was already in the upper spot on the Pre-98 console, with the covered ash tray/lighter below it, and the cup holder/coin tray is where the radio would be normally in post-98. I'd love to have the double-din in the top two slots, but I'm unfamiliar with what would need to be done to move the HVAC to the Pre-98 console

well to move it down its just vaccum lines and then the hard line for the temp selector. Now I haven't taken mine about so I may be wrong but in my probe when I moved it all to the glove box it all fit and I had to do no extending.

I plan on getting a pre98 soon and doing it myself.

ive put the din on the pre-98 lower part it fit perfect didnt even have to use the trim (i just molded one...not hard)i had the pioneer avh-p4100 i think thats the model of it..just sold it all to some kid that paid $1000 for it all ..couldnt pass up that deal , so i got no pics of it sorry but the answer to your questions is yes you can with like no molding .....and the answer to chas's question is all the wires for the HVAC they all lead to a spot on the upper right corner and there all tied together , all you do is cut the clip and all the wire will go free giving you more room to move them to new locations

Thanks! I figured there would be some wiggle room with the HVAC. How was the viewing of the P4100 with the shifter in 1st, 3rd, 5th?

never had a problem ..i never really watched movies on it so it was pointless for me to have it..and when i got that offer i took it fast lol but if its for someone who uses it they would love it

im in the middle of glassing my dash bezel as we speak but i can shoot some pictures of the install so far so you can get an idea..and i can show you were i relocated my HVAC controls...have gotten quiet a few compliments on it so far and it isnt to hard to do, i think a total of 13 wires needed to be extended..vaccum lines were fine
