I have a 96 Contour and the rear door doesn't open. I have tried both inside and outside handle and nothing. I've been reading and a few other members have had the same problem, so I tried removing the four bolts holding the door on. The only problem is the bar the keeps the door from going backward.

Do you have to cut this bar or is there a way to remove it?

thanks in advance!

I had the same problem I think. I had to change the inside door handle and the actuator I think it was called but you have to take the whole door panel off to get at it. So did you get the door open?

Still working on it

Still working on it

I can't get the door panel off without destroying it. All the screws are hidden while the door is closed so no way to get to them.

Ya, I had the same problem on my rear drivers side. After a while the door mechanisms inside the door just give out. If you can find a way to get the door open, you should go to a junk yard and buy all the pieces that connect to both door handles and replace it all and it will work fine again. It took me hours to find a way to get the door open. What I did was took off the black weather guard off the window and took a piece of metal with a hook at the end and jimmied it around til the door opened.

or you can just leave it and make people crawl over:laugh: this is what i did, but dont let people grab the headrest to slide over, those fall off lol

lol ya because now my passenger side headrest is like hanging on by a thread

LOL, I'll have to keep that in mind!

And thanks for the advice, I didn't even think about taking off that plastic piece. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

thanks again!

Hi, did this solve your problem...with the locks?

Hi, did this solve your problem...with the locks?

My drivers side door lock just went out....I can open it manually. The key makes the lock inside sound, but will not open the door. It will open the Passenger door. Oh, by the way I have a 95 Se Auto-Power Locks-but no keyless-It does however unlock the other doors inside the drivers...when I use the key. I checked the Haynes and wanted to see if there is anything else about this...This seems to be the closest thread to the problem I am having-I wanted to check here before I tear down the door....Hopefully someone can help-I have a 2 year old in a carseat and once I shut the door gotta hard time opening the door ( just had surgery on my arm ouch) ...Thanks,

that bar does come out. There are two bolts on the inside of the door. There is nothing to cut.

But I have a question. How did you get any bolts out without opening the door?

So, when I go to the salvage yard, I can use any model 95-97? GL or SE?

Any model or year is fine. Just make sure you get the one for power windows if you have power windows and the non PW if you have likewise.

Thanks.....I will have to check it out...at the yards..
