i tried everything to get it out even my dad tried (carefully of course) and all the internet faq's said that it should come out w/ a gentle steady prying motion...but it seems stuck in the transmission....i looked the replacement axle and there seems to be a retaining ring on the inner cv joint splined shaft...do i need this....i'm thinking i do...

this is how you do it:

easier with 2 people

one holds a pry bar as if to pry it out with constant good pressure.

The other then taps with a hammer on the axle...best to tap close to the tranny. It'll pop right out

The pressure will seat the little ring, and the tapping pops it out.

we tried that for 45min....didn't do a thing...did you pry from below or using the curved end through the wheel well?...i am so close but i can't get the damn thing out....its taunting me...do you think that axle puller will work....

how did you use an axle puller and not tear the thing in half?

I meant pry on the inside joint part....you have to have steady pressure on it while hitting it with a hammer.

I would like to know if he is talking about a slide hammer or what? If so, you just put the prong behind the axle housing and a give a quick jerk and it pops out.
