Cylinder 6 misfire

I have a 00 SVT with 112K on it and recently it started to hesitate under full throttle in the lower rpm range (up to 3600rpm). After 3600rpm when the secondaries open it's fine and pulls hard with no hesitation. Not to long ago I gave it a tune up since it definatly needed it. Went to Car quest in Pa and got some autolite plugs and a set of wires. Worked great when I first put them on. Has anyone ever had this problem before? I was told by a tech at a ford dealer that these cars don't like aftermarket wires so I'm thinking maybe it's the wires. Then I was thinking it was the coil but these cars are waste spark and if a coil was going bad then I should have a problem in 2 cylinders and not just one. I also recently put a new K&N cone filter on and cleaned the Maf sensor not sure if that would cause anything. Please help if anyone has had this problem before.

I had my #6 wire fail several times casuing misfires...although my situation may be different than yours. My plug popped out and I had to re thread the hole with a helicoil sleeve kit. The #6 wire started failing periodically after this happened.....here's a link to the thread -->

When it misfires I could see the spark jumping thru the boot to the block. The last time it happened I replaced the #6 wire with an old wire I had and I haven't had any problems since. You should look at your engine running in the dark and check for sparks along the #6 wire (and the others too).

Hope this helps.

Correct. Aftermarket plugs could also cause a problem.

Also make sure the plugs are gapped correctly. It should be 0.054 inch.

I too had the same problem. It eventually was the wires i had on also :blackeye:

Ordered a new set and called a day....5 months now and no problems.
