for my composites class we can make any part we want for a final project instead of tests. from a cup holder (yawn) to whatever we want. Well since the teacher is going to help me with my sideskirt molds i was planning on doing a hood.

now this is where you guys come in handy. i need ideas of what the hood should look like. i remember a while back a hood thread but im far to lazy to go searching.

these could also be done in carbon fiber and carbon kevlar fabrics as well as just fiberglass.

side note: the project car in the shop is a ford focus. very wide body. ill snap a picture or two next time im in there.

1) 2000 Mustang Cobra R 'power dome' style or
2) very simple design small cowl hood to fit the stock lines
I do have the upper shell of a 2000 Cobra R glass hood if that would help you (and I get a killer deal on the first one :) ).
Sounds like a cool class and project.

its a sick class.

the very simple design would be raising the center portion of the hood about 1-2inches by the time it reaches the cowl.

Another option would be something to accomodate the Eaton supercharger NPG is doing, all those guys would need a hood.

very true. but i would have to have a kit on my parts car so that i know how high and wide i would have to make it. its a 16 week course and the last 8 is dedicated to the final project. so i have two months to figure this out.

id like the guys from NPG to chime in here if they get time to do so.

I am not going to lie, I would like to see someone come up with a reverse cowl hood, where it is down below the stock line in the very front and then raises to normal level the further back it got... I think that would look REALLY good on these cars...The cowl is cool too I guess...I just don't know if I like it that much...

Yeah it definitely sounds like a sweet class.

make a tastfull cowl hood. not with a vent in it, and flow with the cars natural lines. or an st 200 hood with vents in the correct locations. :)

Or maybe a vented hood with no cowl or a small cowl?? Come on people this thing looks sick

Ummm or maybe just some vents where the air intake is : shrug:

Which is where the vent is placed... so yea where the air intake is. But you would want it symmetrical as just having a single vent would just look funny. Plus another purpose for the vents is to provide a path for underhood heat to escape. So for us turbo guys that would work out nicely.

+1 Im with CSVT#49! That looks Siick and I would sport something like that! I really wish we could get something like those evo hoods back in action.

Can these things be made in Carbon Fiber on your end?

I've actually been working with a few companies on this as well... going to run about $5k to get a mold made and then you are looking at $1200 piece parts in CF.

i like it. but i also like the cobra R hood too

Why not integrate the two?? Have the Cobra R scoop centered and do two vents one on each side  However the Cobra R scoop would really only be for show... with that thing right above the engine (and for most people the coil pack) you would have to worry about water ingression.

The vents could be made to flow with the contour lines of the hood and the Cobra R scoop would flow just as well if placed correctly.
