So it turns out I have some groupies. For the last couple weeks, a group of kids (probably 4th grade - 7th grade) have been asking me about my car as I drove past them down my street. Yesterday they followed me home and started asking a bunch of questions. It was funny... one of the kids was trying to fit in, but kept asking irrelevant questions, so the other ones started picking on him.

Since they came over to talk to me, even though my 9yr old daughter is friends with one of the boys... my wife gave me hard time about it... saying "aw.... you made some friends.".

I just thought it was kind of funny. Since I don't think of my car as all that cool, I initially thought they were being sarcastic. What I got out of it... one of the boys said his dad designs exhausts and headers (interesting), and another said I should race his dad who has a GTP (OEM blower, smaller pulley). I showed him the turbo on my shelf and told him "after I install this".

Aw, you made some new friends that don't pick on you for driving a contour. I love it :)

I went out playing golf with a buddy of mine one day. After the round, we headed back to his place to shoot the bull and drain a few beers. While we were hanging out, his wife pulls in the driveway with their two sons. The older one, maybe four years old, after having seen my tropic green SVT in the driveway, comes in and says, "Daddy! Who drives the race car?!"

Good story.
I guess some people can appreciate these are cool cars.
There's a mentally retarded young guy that helps run the recycling center we use and I drove in one day after washing the car. He's always friendly but that day he ran over and was like "I like your car, its shiny? Is it special?"
Most people never notice but I liked it.

That's very cool. It sure is special, it's an SVT Contour!

My Talon used to be a huge hit with kids. A lot kept asking if it was a Ferrari or something.....ahhhh ignorance.

How sad. My Fiero/Lambo kit car doesnt impress anyone. :(

that is because it should just look like this.

Funny stories. I have a few kids down my street who do the same thing. When I'm swapping suspension in the driveway or what not, they will all huddle around while sitting on their bikes to watch and talk. :) They always ask why I have so many of them too.

A quick story, my neighbor across the street has a few $55,000 plus Mercedes and BMW's. He is the one who always calls the city about the unregistered "junk cars" in my driveway as the Ordinance officer quoted. On Halloween this year, my wife and I were sitting on lawn chairs at the end of our driveway passing out candy and this neighbor was doing the same at the end of his driveway with his wife. I had over 15 parents compliment me on my cars. I had dads wanting to talk about them while telling me about their SVT stories. I heard the "I almost bought one" "I used to have one and I regret selling it" "A guy at work has one and they are so nice" etc... My neighbor had his Red Mercedes freshly waxed sitting in the driveway and nobody mentioned a word about it! You should have seen his face when he heard all the compliments. I think he is just now understanding that they are not just "junk cars" as he calls them! I hate that guy. He was bold enough to come knock on my door and ask me to remove my cars because "your cars will turn away buyers from my house" which he is apparently putting up for sale. All of my cars have plates slapped on them. No flat tires. All SVT's and all in good shape with no rust, etc... I move them around all the time and I store most of them at my parents house anyways. I don't have parts cars ripped apart in my driveway or anything! What a douche. End of my rant.

Maybe you should put BMW logos on them...see what he has to say then. He sounds like the type of idiot who would come over and say, nice cars...I used to own one of them.

You should host SZ for an evening. We can have Contours lined up and down both sides of the street for a mile. See what he says then

its always a great feeling when you come up to a car on the highway and theres a kid with his face pressed up to the glass. kid gives you a thumbs up as you rev up a little before downshifting and pulling away. you look back and theres his head hanging out the window jim carrey style trying to get a last glimpse. i love it!

I think the best was when i still had the turbo Zetec. i pulled up next to my aunt and uncle with my little cousin in the back seat on the highway. it was summer so we both had the windows down. in 5th i punched it until the boost built then let off the throttle to get the HKS to go off. i heard my little cousing giggle with glee and i dropped it to 3rd and punched it. probably one of the best things i remember with that car.

My nephew sometimes call my car a race car and I've had a kid once or twice ask about my car. I think it's cool they're interested that young. I was always into cars but never asked people about their's unless they had something I knew as a kid was fast/cool. Such a thrill when I got to ride in a cobra for the first time as little kid. Guy moved away and bought a porsche and was supposed to come back and let me ride it in but he never did. Disappointed kid I was.

not all that cool:shrug: My short story is about the little kid (5 ish) in the grocery store parking lot walking past my car with his mom and say's wow mom did you see that car it had 4 muffler's on it thats cool while looking at my car
