Cruise Control Indicator?

Ok, I have a goofy question about my 2000 SVTC. The cruise works just fine on it, but I can't help but think this thing is supposed to have a cruise control indicator light in the cluster.

Do they have them, and if so, where is it located in the light bar?

Thanks,
David.

thats no help. if your gonna give that kind of response dont even bother, not all of us are lucky enough to have our owners manual. i dont think there is a light

It's funny that this thread came up. I was wondering about the same thing on my car. Allow me to quote the Haynes repair manual. If you have a copy of the manual, it comes out of Chapter 12, Section 20:

"An indicator light on the instrument panel is illuminated when the system is in operation."

I would think that there would be a light that come on, letting you know that cruise control is activated. But I have yet to see it. I just don't know.

I've pulled apart my gauges multiple times, there's nothin'. The newer ConTiques had the fog lamp indicator in the gauges. Older ones had diesel lights and heated seat lights. I've never seen one with a cruise light.

Your answer is in your owner's manual....

Thanks a lot, smart-ass. I just bought this car and I don't have the manual.

That was exactly my reasoning. My wife's '99 Taurus has an indicator, so I kind of expected this one to as well. I was reading through the Haynes manual last night and read the phrase you quoted. I decided to ask here before I tore the cluster apart.

Thanks for the info!
David

Uh, no. Owner's manuals are free to download directly from Ford's website. See my signature. Basic operation and control indicators are explained there-in.

IIRC, there's a spot in the cluster for it, but it doesn't illuminate. The clusters I'm pretty sure are Mondeo/Contour clusters, so there are spots there that our PCM doesn't light, like the SPORT indicator.

It's funny this thread comes up now. I was thinking how nice it would be to have a light in the Contour like our Taurus had and the Windstar has. I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to wire something up, you'd just have to know which wire to splice into that could send voltage to a light, either in the cluster somewhere, or in another location.

everyone seems to have forgotten the haynes manual has alot of reference to the modeo that don't even apply to the contour, iirc.

as indicated the contour doesn't have a cruise control indicator.

Correct. For those familiar with the pre98 dash bezel, it's at the very far left of that strip of trim pieces/switches/clock, right next to the door.

for the contour. on the mystique is a very small light next to/built into the headlight switch.
