Sold the contour yesterday and picked this up today. 1996 Silver Volvo 850 Turbo (dirty). I had contour 8 years and i thought it was pretty fast, but man when that turbo kicks in, im planted in my seat. Plus it has all the room we need for our growing family. I will miss the contour it was a great car, i just needed to move on.
The contour at its new home....

The volvo at its new home :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are VERY happy, We are a family of Volvos :)

How ironic. I am selling my 95 850 Turbo and just bought my 2000 SVT. I certainly agree with you that the 850 Turbo really scoots. I know they run about the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile but the Volvo feels faster. However I know the SVT has a higher top speed. I could never urk more than 130mph out of the Volvo but my first SVT hit 150mph completely stock.

150 eh? I could have sworn the SVT website states 143 max...

Yes it does, but that doesn't mean the speedometer didn't read 150mph. Every car I have ever owned reads high at those mph's too. I tested all of my cars because I have access to a radar gun that is with 1/2 a mph. :) My SVT reads 112mph when I am going over 120mph. And the faster you go, the farther off the speedo is.

And congrats on your new car!

Congrats on the 850! We've enjoyed our '97 850 wagon (my wife mostly drives it). It is my first Volvo, and I have found it surprisingly easy to work on (although I'm not looking forward to replacing the A/C evaporator :blackeye: ).

Which is dependent on resistance. If you have a hill or a strong tailwind you can break the 143 mark pretty easily.

I had a long downhill run and then a completely flat stretch for about 1 mile. It was observed on the Spedo at 150mph during the flat mile stetch. I cannot verify that it is accurate but it was observerd.

In my 944 Turbo I can say definitively that at 150mph indicated on the spedo you are doing 150mph. I verified the speed with a GPS and its indicated speed matched my speedo within 1mph.
