Contour in Big Bend Open Road Race

Rob, what class could a Bondurant car run in?

CJ, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Rob, do you ever run your car at MAM? By the way, welcome to CEG. There are a few of us on here who have been patiently waiting and wondering if we would publicly hear about your endeavors. It's been fascinating to read your input and hear about what these cars are capable of.

could I get a breakdown of safety requirements for the classes I might be able to run in? something with a tech speed around 150 is feasible, as long as the safety parts don't runt he bill out the window (things like fire suppression and racing fuel cells...)

Exactly what you're thinking...can't believe it's legal :)

Well, that too. I think we should try this out. As long as the mrs. has plenty of notice, I could sneak away for a couple of days to participate.

Rob, of all the open road racing events you've entered, which would be at the top of your list?

My endeavors are better now that I'm not crashing or breaking things! For a contour texas or nebraska, nebraska is tough to get in because of the popularity. Web sites have all the tech info, Speed vs. safety equipment.
The Bondurant car was great, check the BBORR web site, 2004 results and look at my radar speeds. The 153 must have been downhill with the wind and an fast radar gun??? That car would run 140+ all day long.
By the way I have 2 kids,

Rob

Same here - a 21 month-old and a 7-week old, both boys. Right now, my free time is generally between 9:00 pm and 2:00 am, so not a lot gets accomplished with the wheeled contraptions. If I'm able to secure an event later this year or in '11, could I pick your brain for some beginner's tips?

...and I've got a 9 month old. This is something that I would love to do. Sounds like you have to register early for Nebraska.

John, we should register this fall for next year and just run the two cars together, as I don't think we could keep up with Rob. This is getting me thinking about a 3L Hybrid, hmmmm....

You guys have my contact information just keep in touch. I met with the guy who is going to build my headers today and the trans comes out next week.

Stuff like this always leads to me drifting off in a daydream about an AWD twin-turbo 3.0L drivetrain, side-exit exhausts, a fuel cell, full racing cage... Basically, what Saleen should have done with ol' #13 (hint-hint for its current curator).

Seriously, though, I'm up for the idea of going to an event in '11. With the way my schedule has been lately, that would give me just enough time to properly prepare the car. I definitely won't be trying to match Rob's speed, maybe just his accuracy. My toy budget has been re-allocated towards daycare, so the Bondurant car will most likely compete in its current state of tune.

You're right boumacj and thanks for that zorrex (even though I was already watching it by the time you posted that :)). I thought it was only that attachment there.. forgot to check the other page.

And WOW! The car sounds friggin awesome!! That was insane... just truly insane. I watched every single minute of it, and certain parts over and over :D. One day I want my car to be a full on track car and hope to be/sound half as good as that car.

i find it funny how everyone is all hard on the zetec FD ratio but the truth is the stock ratio is better. :D glad i never wasted my money on that crap

he only has to swap back from the long final drive because his engine makes power so high in the revs I believe, pretty sure with a full 3l and the stock gears, the zetec final is still better.

I'd personally like to have a complete euro spec trans...

Yeah, Rob has totally different gearing so the effect the FD has on the gearing is different then to what everyone else has with thier stock trans.

Well, if you mean a full 3L with 3L cams, then yeah maybe the Zetec one would be better. IMO, any 3L with SVT cams the shorter/stock FD would be better, especially on a road course. The Zetec is better for top speed (If you have enough power) and/or fuel economy... Stock FD is better for accleration. Of course, once you start going FI, then the Zetec FD would be better to handle and put down the power.

IIRC, I'm pretty sure there are 2 kinds of euro gearsets.. one has the shorter 4th and 5th and one has longer gearing.
