Hey, im new to this forum and have been reading into a lot of the discussions and topics featured. I gotta come clean, i own a 2001 Mercury cougar 2.5l Duratec V6, but was i just wondering what parts are interchangeabe and what parts on the contour would be benificial to the cougar. E.X. Air intake. I have heard of many Cougar owners swapping their stock MAF sensors with an SVT MAF sensor. Is this a direct application, or are there other things needed for this to work like tuning, reprogramming, etc? :help:

I don't know of any difference between the Cougar and SVT MAF. I always thought they were the same.

Maybe it's the SVT TB you are thinking of?

Do some research on here (don't forget the old forums too) and over on newcougar.org.

Welcome to the site(s).

Your best bet would just be to keep the stock MAF and get a tune with an X-CAL 2.

Ive seen a lot of people on here talking about the X-CAL 2 system and how it can help performance wise, but what is the price range that it runs, and where could i find the system? (I havent read all the threads on here, so if this question has already been answered i dont mean to be repetitive.)

Check the PCM Tuning branch. Theres a thread thats stickied thats called "X-Cal What is it?". As for the price range, I believe its ~$230-250.

The SVT upper intake, Lower intake, and TB are different. So are the cams, etc, etc. If you wanted to grab all THAT stuff it would, technically, be beneficial to you.

ditto, the contour se MAF is identical to the cougar.

the SVT one is different, its calibrated to 19lb injectors [rather than the 17 you have].

swapping in an SVT is NOT going to result in any benifits nor would I recommend it

CEG is a great source of information [even being a cougar owner], we have quite a few cougar owners lurking around here, NewCougar.org is another resource you may want to look at.

actually that is wrong, the Mafs are the same ...

the difference has to be in the PCM ...

How much more productive would it be if I were to swap out the 2.5l duratec from my 2001 mercury cougar and drop in a contour svt motor, instead of buying all the internals and UIM/LIM, maf sensor and stuff. Would this be worth the money? Or should i stick with just building up the 2.5l cougar motor i have now?? (feedback would be great, as i am trying to get moving along with mods soon as summer rolls around.)

if you are going to pull the motor out you are better off putting a 3L back in, that will net you more power and torque anyway

the SCT pro racer package says otherwise about the two mafs..i've seen the binaries for both....they ARE different.

the SVT lim and your 01+ LIM are indentical, the injectors are 17 lb though. 01 also have new ring land, allowing better boosting capabilities:)

So what your sayin is that if i wanted to put on some SVT parts in replace of my stock 2.5l parts, i should just keep the LIM and put on an UIM? Followed of course by all the other peices like TB and MAF.

ForeverFord05, come over to www.newcougar.org/forums for more info on your Cougar. The MAF's are the same between the SVT and the Cougar, you will see NO benifit what-so-ever by changing the two out. You will, however, want to pick up a SVT TB and UIM. You will also need a SVT TB Bracket and throttle cable to make the SVT TB work. All the information is in a how to over on NECO as well as here on CEG.
