Ok, I'm having some trouble taking my console out. I've searched a bit but havent found much on these specific things...
(96 SE)
1. How do you get the screw covers off? Do they unscrew or do they need to be pryed out? Didnt mess with it for long - too cold.
2. How do you get the reverse-thingy off the shifter to remove the boot? I didnt want to mess it up, but it didnt seem to want to come off.
3. Are the screws holding console to instrument panel behind the ashtray or the other empty box below the radio? Autozone says theyre behind the ashtray, but I got that out fine and didnt see anything. How do you get the other tray out?

Thanks

Like I said, I already looked at it and it doesnt answer any of my questions. Maybe read the post next time.

I only read to #2. The autozone info is from the factory manual, vague at best. Pull up hard on the parking brake and pick up the back of the console up. The front of the console bends alot and you can fanagle the console over the parking brake. That little empty box pulls out.

IIRC there might be two screws, behind the empty box, you have to remove first to fully release the console.

Ok - I got everything except for the shifter boot. How do you get it off over the reverse-knob thing? I see theres like a ziptie that's tightening it onto the pole, but I dont want to cut it and dont see how I can loosen it... How the heck do you get the boot off?

Ok - I got it figured out.. Those clips were a bi$#&..

But, now I damage something else. haha
I was trying to figure out how to get to the last two screws and was trying to get the little extra box out from in the footwell-area with a screwdriver.. Well, it slipped and hit the connection for the cig lighter and there was a mini spark and now my car phone charger isnt working in the plug............... argh. Did the metal screw driver 'short' it out or somtehing? I dont know electrics..

What do you mean check it? Like I said - I know nothing of electrics.. Take it out and replace it?

Pull it out and look to see if it is blown. Look at the side of the fuse and you'll be able to see its no good. You should have a extra one in the Under Hood Fuse Bx by the battery.

Ok - I took the fuse out and it looks fine. Can't find any brown... But, where would an extra be in the power box? I just see some that are plugged in, which I'm guessing are being used for something?

EDIT: I checked the contour manual and I'm missing the ABS & "Air Pump" fuse in my power distrib box. Do I need to get a fuse for the air pump? What is it? I dont see anywhere where there are extras..

Do you mean Blown? The 15 amp fuse is blue. Extra ones are under the cover you removed, along with a tool to help pull out the fuse.

Do you have ABS? It was an option.

OK - I'm dumb. I found the extras and replaced it and it works. But, what about the air pump fuse? Mine's gone..
