I have had Alpine Type R components for a few years now, and I want to get some new components. I am willing to spend around $250 on ebay, and I was wondering if an Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Component System was any good. I have a four channel Alpine hooked up to push my door speakers, so any ideas would be great! Thanks

Good, sure, but no guarantee you'll like them any more than your Alpines. You can't trust opinions on speakers. They're like food, what I like you might hate.

Those are two pretty common brands. Visit some local stores - you might be able to audition them side by side.

Good answer!! :)

Well is it safe to say that the infinity's will not just be garbage (aka Raman Noodles) and will be able to get pretty loud with out distorting? ( Bacon Cheeseburger) haha

Its a safe bet that they will get louder than other brands, but you sound like you're going for sound quality and louder isnt always better.

I really would like a mix of quality and volume... My other options would be

Alpine spx-17ref
JL xr650-csi
Maybe even ROCKFORD FOSGATE T162S, but it seems like RF has kinda sucked lately

I would get anything for around 250 (on Ebay)

im gonna have to say that i would have to say go to a local shop and listen to some components, find a set you like and try to find them on ebay. if you cant find them on ebay, the store has them...

From my experience with both speakers I must recommend the Kappa perfects... the reason being they get MUCH better range. IIRC the new kappa components (non perfect) go from like 45hz to 35k as opposed to the 54hz to 24k like the type r's do.... thats a big difference

although the new kappa tweeters are big as hell

I have 2 sets of JL Audio XR570csi in my car, and they sound amazing to me... as a matter of fact, jsut came into another 500/1 amp, and another 300/4 amp, so Ill probably get another set of xr components for my other car...

wait a sec, can't any speaker distort if it is over powered?

I set mine up so that at max volume on the radio the speakers are loud but are clean sounding, ie no distortion or botteming out. This is all controlled with the gain on the amp. I also drive them at close to their rms wattage.

Eh. after my experience with kappas, I wouldn't buy them again, but i'm a picky bastard.
