old thread, just closing it up due to a great suggestion by BAD SVT. ( http://contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=27889) It was the transmission but it was the differential. The best way to explain why all of my slipping happened is; when I would turn the spider gears would shift left or right and thats why I would feel the pounding, the spider gears were stripped down only on half a side. see picture below
if you spin the spider gears you would see the other side actually still has teeth. Thats how the car was able to still run straight. So you know your differential has gone bad if you feel a slight slip while turning, then a grab. So thats the answer to my problem, thanks to everyone that helped. The transmission was full of metal shavings too...
