My cig/cigar lighter doesn't seem to work right... it provides power, but the plugs don't stay put and the power cuts out. I'd like to replace it. Could I just buy a standard one from a auto parts store? Or does the Contour have it's own specific one? And does it just pull right out or is there something more involved in removing it?

I could never figure out how the lighter socket removes from the console. Everything I tried looked like it would break the console so I just left it in for painting and covered it up.
My Pre-98 socket is worn out or needs the tabs bent in more. I just don't feel like screwing up my console trying to remove it.

to remove it you need to uscrew it from the piece on the other side of the console.

you forget that both of my cars have pre98 consoles in them and therefore have the lighted cigarette lighters .... and the mystique has one by default so ....

Do all pre98's light? Don't recall if my 96 does or not.
maybe not all, most likely part of the light group package which got you the door lock lights (was that 95 only?), the lighted door handles, etc
I know the console I got from another ceger for my 99 has a light and I am pretty sure the one Allen put in the SVT was also

my dad's barebones 95 with manual windows/locks has a lighted cig. lighter and no lighted door handles.
So part of the console needs to be taken off... the part under the radio?

I'm not sure how well that will work though. I believe the light is just clear, but the green comes from the surrounding ring on the outside.
