:censored::censored::censored::censored:! I just broke down on the highway.

Well :censored: me. My car has turned on me. Runs fine...until I start my trip back to LA. One hour into my trip & the water pump turns loose on me. Broke down AGAIN! Only this time I don't have the luxury of an extra day or more to limp on and/or fix it. These cars must really want me to sell them. Maybe it's time to move on and unload all six. *sigh*
 
Ugh. That's just it. Nothing on this car has EVER needed fixing before now. Just the shift cable ends. I suppose th entire car is going to fall apart now. Everything that has never broken will break all at once. :nonono: :cry:

well hopefully its just some bad luck. Long trips in an old car, something might break. Check things before you hit the road, tires, lights, etc, and you might want to look over the belts. Dont lose hope!
 
Luckily none of the Contours are my primary transportation. There's something to be said for having multiple cars. But now, out of 7 cars total (not counting parts cars) I'm down to just 1 w/ no problems whatsoever. Four have mostly minor repairable issues, and 2 are near basket cases. I just get tired of working on them, you know?

Well, the folks are on the way w/ truck & trailer and my Azera. Hopefully I'll be back on the road in an hour or two. That's a :censored:-ton better than the 15 hours I was stuck last week!

You were running on borrowed time, a '98 with 80k miles on original water pump. That is if an early '98 with the defective plastic impellar blade.

Don't get discouraged but time to start doing some overdue PM.
Along with water pump replace belt and tensioner also. When you did your alternator did you replace serpentine belt? How did serpentine tensioner look? Replace spark plugs yet? etc. etc.
