Catalytic conv. 'mesh' Hanging?

Well i looked under my car today, and noticed some 'mesh'(i guess) hanging from the catalytic convertor.. is this a bad thing? could it solve this? http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=676

also another note my CEL went off crazy

If it is the mesh that I think you are talking about its a heatshield.

Possibly and no on the other two.

I think you are talking about the "mesh" on the flexi-pipe. It is between the Y-pipe and the main catalytic converter. My Contour had the front portion come out (either rust or going over some dirt). I fixed it by using the wire mesh, strap and nuts and bolts from the Victor V812 Exhaust Repair Kit. $8 from Autozone or Advance. Just wrap the mesh over it and strap over it and tighten the nuts and bolts. You need metal shears too. Another $8 or so.
