Car Transport?

I used a broker called auto transport direct and they hired the driver who was a complete tool, I got the car fixed and got paid back but that was through my insurance company and they sued him, but still I wouldnt recomend hauling, go do it yourself.

Ryan, do you know how long it would take him to get it there himself? Ohio from So. Cali is not a day trip. He will be driving a min of 4 days to get there and back.

Ok and, its better than having the car in the shop for weeks if they mess it up.

Horror stories abound on pretty much every auto transport company that charges under $1000. If you are willing to pay for your car to ride in an enclosed carrier and on the top rack you have a much greater chance of everything going perfect!

I purchased my '06 Saab in Houston and drove it back. Flew in on Friday afternoon and arrived back home 1,900 miles later at 3pm on Sunday. Summer time driving was super easy.

I purchased my '08 Saab in Macomb, MI and drove the 2400 miles back. Was a rough drive as there was a lot of snow - lake effect through Michigan, disaterous conditions in Iowa, white outs and blowing snow through the passes of Wyoming and temperatures as low as negative 13 and mountain passes with elevations of 8900ft. We started driving Wednesday night at 6pm and made it to Reno on Friday at 9pm where we spent the weekend hanging with friends before driving the final 250 miles home.

I was not willing to pay $1300 - $1600 for an enclosed carrier service and we did the '08 Saab trip for under $500 including two plane tickets, gas, food & lodging. I will also not buy a car site unseen.

Road trips are a lot of fun as well and you get to see parts of the country you have never seen before. Eating at White Castle, having soul food in Omaha, crossing the Mississippi, seeing Wyoming & the Salt Lake, and the Bonneville Salt Flats was very cool.

I personally wouldn't waste my time and money bringing a car that far when it would be insured on a transport.

The problem I had was that they had in fine print that they were liable for no more than $200 worth of damage unless I paid an extra $600 for an enclosed carrier. There wasn't insurance available otherwise. And.... stupid me, I didn't think to ask around and find out the real story.

Here's what they did to my paint:

Most of the scuffs buffed out, but not all. It will have to be repainted to get it all the way right, and that's WAAAAAAY more than $200.

When I got my M3, I flew down to south Florida, and drove it home to MI. I was much happier than if I'd paid to have it transported.

I got my SVT today. Filthy with rightside molding in car. Does anyone have any strong ways of securing them. Anyway overall my experience with the shipping company was good just couldn't get an accurate day and time for delivery or pickup.
Thanks Rob

98svt69 was in Cali and works for his dads transport co. Said he would give CEGers a deal so it might be worth tracking him down. I have no experience with it myself. Any reason why you are shipping the car all the way to Ohio?
