broken lug nut studs

so im driving my car home today and start hearing a squeeking and then get a small vibration from the car. i pull over and check my wheels. then i notice my front passenger wheel only has 1 lug nut on it im like WTF. so i get down there and check it out. 2 of the studs are broke off and one lug nut is missing. how the hell do studs break? so now i need to get a new hub. this blows
 
This happens from not tightening them correctly. Eventually they'll start loosening up, breaking, and what not. Your in luck though, you do not need a new hub. Just call up autozone, or your local parts store and ask for 4 wheel studs. Simply tap the old ones out, and tap the new ones in. Do your best to somewhat line up the splines on the stud with the existing indentions in the hub holes.

precisely.

1) Big hammer
2) remove wheel
3) hit broken stud directly on with big hammer, hard
4) stud should pop out
5) replacement stud goes in
6) get a washer (so you don't gouge your rotor/drum and use a lug nut and your lug wrench to tighten the lug nut down and set the new stud into the hub.

Studs are about $1.50 each at your local parts store.

sounds like your lugnuts were improperly torqued, this happens way more often than you would think after taking your car to tire place, someone messes up the setting on the impact gun and it doesnt tighten the lug nuts enough, sounds like when one of your lug nuts came out the other 3 were over stressed and possibly under tightened, that kind of torque imbalance would cause a force that would allow sheering. So whats going to sheer? your studs.

ok guys just tried to fix this and the stud is broke flush with the roter. and i tried taping it out but i wouldnt budge. do i now have to take the caliper and roter and hub off to get this?

Removing the caliper and bracket is really easy, there is two bolts that holds the bracket and caliper to the hub, remove those and the whole assembly should come apart, and the rotor will slide off fairly easy, it might be a little rust welded to the hub so it might be a bit snug to pull off. You will have better access to the studs now.

OR this might be easier... you can just get a punch tool or a screw driver, put it on the broken stud, and hit the hammer on the screwdriver. A punch tool would work a lot better than a screwdriver in this case.
 
You're lucky you stopped in time. That happened to my wife while she was doing 55 mph. Not a pretty sight. She lost the wheel and it tore up the front fender too. I'm just glad it was the front and not the rear. I had to replace the rotor too. She(my Wife) was ok just a little shaken up. I'm guessing I over tightened the lug nuts. Can't blame anybody except myself for that one.

i started to do that but after about 10 min of hitting it all i had was a indentaion in the stud. it didnt look like it moved at all....so i geuss im going to pull the beotch apart tommorrow
 
You're using a 5 lb. sledge hammer right?

BTW-Everyone needs a tq. wrench! 90 foot lbs. for the wheels people!
 
yeah. he doesnt need a sledge I just did it with a hammer I had laying around, but he will need direct access to the stud. A good solid couple of whacks should take them sum bisch out.
