Brand new Ranger in the works?

1st gen explorer, 184 inches long, 2nd gen escape, 174 inches long, 4th and 5th gen explorer 194 inches long.

The escape replaced what the explorer was supposed to be a long time ago, a mid-sized SUV. Ford still makes an Expedition that is 10 inches longer than the explorer if you are looking for a full size SUV with an engine facing the "right" direction putting power to the "right" wheels in a traditional chassis on frame truck style setup.

The explorer was only a really good vehicle offroad in the first gen, the second gen was passable, after that, they were just bloated station wagons on truck frames. I hate the styling of the new explorer, but it was definitely the right way for ford to go with it. I'm actually told the 5th gen explorer is as good offroad as the 4th gen, which..... wasn't really worth writing home about either. A new escape is just as roomy as a first gen explorer, if not more so, and the new explorer is TONS more roomy than the 4th gen even. Also, having the non-awd explorers available in FWD configuration opens up a HUGE market. There are tons of potential SUV buyers who don't want a 4wd but are scared of RWD vehicles in bad weather or winter driving, and a lot of them want or need something bigger than an escape.

perhaps the ford flex? or did they cancel those? I sort of liked the landrover headlights on a retro XB station-wagon toaster thing it had goin on....

perhaps they will bring back the ford ranchero by putting a truck bed on the new FWD station wagon they're calling the explorer...

I might actually be fore that just because of the uniqueness of it... never seen a transverse engine pick-up before...

Take your conversation to Pm's Cobrawannabe and Kaos.

no prob, I'm trying to discuss the future of the ranger/sport trac/explorer line of vehicles and where I'd like them to go as a ford consumer....

y the hostility:shrug:? Anyways, i did see an adrenalin sport trac today. Must've been 2010/'11 model. GOD THAT TRUCK LOOKS GOOD!!! I'll go out on a limb and say its the best looking truck out there right now. Even looks better than the raptor. Look it up and u'll see what i mean.

OK, I must have it now!

it's like ford brought back GMC's psyclone, but it's not ugly!

any idea what these would cost?

oh, well then boo that. riced out truck FTL...

Not necessarily... The one ford released looks exactly like the one u posted. The difference is the exhaust. The sport trac has a single exhaust with twin chrome outlets. Other than that, the exterior is pretty much the same. Besides, if u want an "SVT Adrenalin" truck, simply slap on a supercharger and voila! 390 horses:). On a side note, now I know what my next truck will be:)...

the AWD was the thing that really turned my head. the GMC Cyclone was the last time anyone made a small, real, sport-truck with AWD...

problem is you need a mullet to drive one...
