BLKOUT2: Rebirth. PRT 2011 track car build thread.

is there a way to get at the bottom nut on the isolator on that engine mount still? can't tell from the pictures...

Yes....if there wasn't there would be no way to tighten it. When I get to finishing it there will be a window cut in the side as well.

Looking forward to getting back in the garage after all the holiday stuff the last two weeks. Picking up a few new toys for the garage tonight as well.

MOAR UPDATES!

Finally getting a 3 day break in the weather so I'll be out there tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. I've got a lot of parts to order, just waiting on some cash and need to finish some parts for stock. I bought some new toys for the garage, so that was the last day I spent out there getting some new racking etc set up and cleaning.

Can't believe how long it's been since the last update but the shop has been slammed with orders and part sales(which is great because I have a ton to order for the car). I've had a few chances to get to the car, so here's where we're at.

The scratch built engine mount and modified trans mount are done and ready for powdercoat. I just need to order material and machine some aluminum washers to replace the steel ones. Overall I dropped the engine and trans assembly about 1/2". The main purpose for this change was to be able to run urethane isolators that are much stiffer than the factory units, and there is almost no deflection in these new bushings.

I had a little spare time tonight and started looking into deleting the heater supply and return ports on the water pump and block manifold. I have a bypass hose installed on the car now, but with part of this year's goal being to clean up the bay I felt it time to look into this. There is one downfall to this and that is if I go through with it I will be eliminating the factory oil cooler and may need to look into an external unit. I'm not sold on the mod yet, but I wanted to play with it at least and see what my options were.

I love the attention to detail. Lots of people gut a car, throw in a roll-bar and think "OMGZ RACECAR!". This reminds me A LOT of my Auto-X/Track prepared SHO...LOTS of custom bits and details for the sake of an all around better car. Half of it is stuff that would never be noticed. Good work.

No oil cooler over the stock unit for me. Are you running an accusump? I have one waiting to go in and plan on picking up an external oil cooler while I am running the oil lines and mounting things in the front bumper.

I plan to plug those coolant passages as well, wish I could get work done on the cars like you do haha. Lookin good though man, I like the new front end setup.

I'm a little OCD... Thanks for the compliments!

No accusump or external cooler, just an extra 1/2 qt in the pan. I have a lot of spare parts laying around so if you need things built(like a plugged WP housing and coolant manifold) I can certainly help.

Part orders have begun to roll in, and a few more are being placed. First up the S13 240SX camber plates came in. Unexpectedly they have minor caster adjustment. Not much, but better than the none I figured I was getting. They are quality pieces and I've already begun mocking up install. Outside of welding in the new strut tower tops it should be a straightforward install and make a big difference in the car. I will be finalizing the Solidworks models this week and will likely order the new CNC cut strut tower tops next week.

I also had some time tonight to play with the new rad mount spacers. I had usses with the Vortech supplied pieces mainly in that they were unequal(required for stock cars) and they didn't push the rad a far as I wanted to. I had some AL rectangular tube laying around and knocked out the new pieces tonight. Next up in this area will be to re-mount the fenders and front end core components and get the new tubular front end completed.

I love all these build threads. So many ideas. Some things wouldn't help me but it gets the wheels turning in my head though. Keep the updates coming.

looks like you are putting on weight!? and it looks like you have a lot of work to do by ZingFest.

Rob

Quite the contrary. New front end is half the weight of stock. Car's gotta be done long before July....I'll have it good and ironed out by the time we get together....Should I add a *Hi Rob, move over" windshield banner?
