Bits of Foam

This winter I have notice there are small bits of black foam being blown out of the vent slots on the dash panel. They are deposited on the top of the dash panel. I also noticed the foam disintegrating under the rear package tray. Anyone else experience this? Are the parts available to replace whats breaking down?

It seems to happen only in the Winter when the heater and defroster are used.

It is just regular "grey" packing foam that you can buy from Home Depot or Lowes. This foam is somethimes put in between the vents and the dashboard or instrument panel and the dashboard (so that it is a tight fit). It is probably disintegrating due to its age.

does it come out like flaky fish food? I think I know what you're talking about because mine had recently started to do the same thing. I judt figure it is something breaking down but not too worried about it for the moment

Mine has done this in the past as well. It looks like black "flaky fish food" flying out of the vents. I just cranked my a/c to high and it flushed itself out. From time to time, I will get an occasional piece. I dont think its anything to worry about.

I have this too. It only really happens when I use the defrost (the vents right up against the window).

It is really annoying for me and my passengers :). Any ideas on how to fix it?

I've been getting that off and on, but becareful with it don't leave it on the upholustry too long it'll eventually disolve or something and stain the seat I had that happen to me a piece shot out of the air vent from the front of the dash to the back seat and I just kept putting it off and it finally disolved into the seat. Most of it did clean up though but it leaves a mess.
