Depends on what the particular part is, which brand is "X" in that particular case, and what criteria is being used to qualify as "better".

I also have something I'd like to add that I feel is related to this...I recently picked up a front caliper bracket from RockAuto, from Cardone. Upon inspection of the part, it had a big, fat FORD logo on it. :shrug:

Ford doesn't make their own stuff. Someone makes it for them. The trick is to find out who that is.
Actually there is still more to it, as even the same company that makes something for Ford may not perform QC as deeply on stuff they sell through other channels, and sometimes don't even make things to the same specs if they sell it through other channels.
Some things in the aftermarket are better, but a lot of it is much worse. Aftermarket is more of a crap shot.

what ive noticed... a lot of the aftermarket stuff cheap chinese GARBAGE. it rusts out quick or breaks easily. i usually buy a quality name brand. that way i dont have to worry about replacing it soonish
typically aren't the oem parts made to the exact specification from ford for the part? and often aren't aftermarket parts just a guess at the specification and don't alway smake the mark?
I have noticed with these cars that oem parts just work better then some of the aftermarket parts.
