I searched for this, and only found one other thread on it. The guy's car in the other thread didn't do the exact same thing as mine and had some other issues as well. But anyway's Does anyone else's CSVT battery light filcker when the car is reved or driven to 6500rmps and above? Everything charges good, and this never happens at any other time. it's actaully done this since I've gotten my car almost 4 months ago, but I never take my car to that high of rpms just because i try to be as nice as possible to my CSVT. But I ran her pretty good tonight a couple times and noticed this at that high of RPMs so I just thought i'd see if anyone else's does this... Thanks!

Try searching the old forums for this same symptoms. If you only got one thread about one of the most common failures for a duratec, then you either aren't *really* searching, were searching the wrong place, or just using the wrong terms.

Also, to answer your question, your alternator is floating at those rpms. It will either eventually begin to do so at lower and lower RPMs or just "quit" charging all together.

Check out the Duratec Maintenance forum, in the "read first" thread for alternator replacement threads.

It was just replaced about 6 months ago, thanks but no thanks! :nonono: Once again, another "try" and make people feel like Sh*t CEGer...

There are two strong posibilities for what you are seeing. The first is alternator brush float from worn brushes or weak brush springs. The second is a bad alternator rotor that goes open at high rpm.

Either way you need alternator attention.

How the hell was I trying to make someone feel bad?

I pointed out alternative references.. I also answered your problem.. AND I gave links, and hints..

What gives, man? Can't take help without getting an attitude?

ok this happens to me to. But I just replaced my alternator three days ago and my SVT does it at about the same RPM. So obviously it cant be a faulty alternator. Maybe the wireing to the alternator, or the belt or something else. I really dont care that my car does it but it would be worth it to look into.

Ok I did the search for you, "and me"....here you go

I'll add one more to seeing NUMEROUS "new"(replaced) alternators fail within the week, day, or 1000 miles!!

exactly, its really not uncommon for you to get a bad alternator, and for some odd reason it happens more with contours.

I'm not saying it doesnt happen.. But you have to go with probability. The probability of the newer alternator being bad versus something like the bad belt is pretty low. But I guess it could happen. But I have an original belt at 160k and my battery light does that, so I am leaning towards a glazed belt.

dude what is your problem? No where in Ray's response was he trying to bash you or make you feel like an idiot. Are you expecting us to find the answer for you?

Learning to use the "Search" function is a good thing. How do you think we manage to provide solution to questions? ;)

MIne does this too. Do your lights fade as well? Mine has been like that since I bought it 18 months ago.

This happened to me when I switched to 9mm wires. The mechanic that I talked to said it was going to only be temporary (and it was) because the motor was flowing more voltage and the charging system wasn't used to the higher volts going through the larger wires. That was at 50,000 miles (years ago) and it eventually went away. I can't remember how long it took but it was a while. That same alternator went for another 140,000 miles. Yes, at 190,000 I finally had to replace it last week.

Also, regarding the search features on almost all the forums I belong to... they usually don't work so well and it's easier for a new person to just post the question. It then makes the new person feel bad when someone posts that they're searching incorrectly. Just an observation of mine. I don't care one way or another. Repeat posts usually just drop down and off the screen after a while anyway.
Cheers,
T

I agree about the search feature. Sometimes its almost impossible to find the correct words to look for your problem. Say, a particular bolt on the alternator, that bolt doesnt have a name, so in a sense you would just have to search alternator or alternator bolt and read EVERY post to see if anything is even relevent. Those kind of problems (maybe a bad example) the search feature really is much harder then asking. Now when someone asks how much HP a stock SVT has.....let the flaming begin. I guess it just depends.
