I have BAT struts with Eibach springs than have been on the car for about 50000 miles. Here is the problem, the left rear is 1/2 inch lower than the right rear. How can one tell if the spring is bad or the strut? My guess is the spring but anybody else have an educated guess?

I bet you one of them is not seated properly. Compress them and adjust. Mine were same problem, B&G on BAT struts. One on the drivers side was not seated properly. Did not have to remove it, just compressed it and seated it properly. Now rides even and handling is much better.

ride height is always the spring not the strut.

over_30k might be right about how to fix it.

not always. when my stock rear struts blew i was riding on the bump stops. the ride height was fine before that and neither spring was broken.

I will try adjusting them. Does the strut have to come off the car to compress the springs?

im not sure if you can compress the spring with it still in the car on the rears. it will certainly be easier with it out of the car though.
