axle removal

hey guys, im getting ready to pull an engine out of one of my cars, one thing i hate about pulling the engine is removing the axle shaft, do you guys have any tips or techniques to removing them
the current car has a 2.5 auto

You can rent the slide hammer from most auto parts stores (O'Reilly's is free) and the CV puller can be had for like $8-15.

For the drivers side I slide the 90 degree end between the axle and trans case, and pry it right out. Passenger side is much easier, at least on the mtx, never looked at an atx.

Atx, remove the intermediate shaft bearing plate where bolts to back of motor, shaft then slides right out. I've used a simple crowbar carefully placed on driver side.
