ATX UDP Warning!

Correction....CORDLESS electric impact guns suck. I have an el cheapo corded impact from HF rated up to 240 ft-lb. Works fine for the occasional times you really need an impact and don't have or want to deal with an air setup. Cost? $39.99. Pick up a 14 piece set of sockets there for $19.99 and you have yourself decent impact tools for $60.

Where'd you get that from? I'd be interested in a set for that price.

Price apparently nudged up recently. Still dirt cheap though.

*EDIT* Actually, maybe it didn't...their in-store prices often don't match up with their online prices. It's totally unpredictable whether you're going to see a better or worse price in the store, so you should always take a printout of good online prices with you if you go because they'll honor online prices if you have proof...it's a PITA. I was in the store a little over a week ago and I was pretty sure I saw it still $40...

So how does it test up? I doubt you could really get 240 ft lbs out of it, but I guess as long as it takes off lug nuts?

I've actually only used it once, my father bought it earlier this summer to try to remove the nuts holding the blades onto our riding lawn mower deck, then gave it to me since he really only needed the one time use and knew I wanted one. It removed one of the blade nuts that we couldn't remove by hand even with the blade chocked and using a breaker bar, and it couldn't remove the other one. But here's the thing: neither could a lawn mower shop using an industrial pneumatic impact gun! Thing must be crossthreaded or something. I'd say for the price it's easily worth it. It should tackle most car tasks. I've read online that people have basically stripped cars down using it. The real test would be seeing if I could remove my axle nuts with it (210ft-lb, not including rust and crap). Hopefully I'll never need to. :ponder:

You read my mind. That's the one real use I'd have for an impact wrench, although it does make lug nut removal much easier. I've twisted a few wheel studs off over the years using a 4-way lug wrench.

Lowe's carries a few electric impact wrenches in the $150-200 range. Dewalt and Hitachi are 2 of the makes they carry. I've been looking at those. Still not sure which one I should get. Sears sells some Craftsman models, too.

Use a breaker bar, make sure its parallel to the ground and then put a jackstand on the other side, get it as reasonably close to the end of the breaker bar as possible. Get it snug so when you go to crank it wont budge. Make sure theres no spark via either removing spark plugs or main connection at coilpack. Turn the key for about a second and voila.
