So i have a '98 Mystique with about 185,000Km's on it...i bought the car of a neighbor and got it for $1500 because the TC is bad. It drives pretty good just gets that hard shift after exiting the highway until yesterday morning. I was driving my car and it starts to buck...on local roads and on highways...it's like the gears aren't catching..when on the highway at times it'll be in D and feels like your in N...anybody know why this is happening? Thanks

Well i have a '98 Mercury Mystique 2.5L V6 with about 186K...the torque converter is not to healthy but i'm gettin that changed soon, but i woke up yesterday morning went out with my family and the car just started like hard shifting non-stop on the highway and even on the main roads..anyone know what my problem may be?
If your speedometer is going crazy and your "OD off" light is flashing, suspect the vehicle speed sensor.

If your speedometer is not going crazy, then suspect the manual lever position sensor and/or fluid level.

And yes, all these have been posted for you before. Would you like me to search those threads for you again from the old forums? ;)

you know what you could do? Replace the entire transmission, if you go to that junk yard that lets you pull em and other stuff for $45 all you can carry, I say go for it.

The speedometer isn't going crazy at all when the gears don't catch the RPM meter goes high.i have to accelarate to about 5000 RPM for it to catch back it's gears.

That is probably due to either (1) Low or dirty ATFluid (2) Cables for MLPS not working well (3) MLPS not working well (4) Torque converter (5) all or a combination of the above. :blackeye:
