Attempting engine wire harness repair

After much delay I am finally attempting this repair. The car was running pretty decent all things considering when I last drove it. A troublesome coolant issue held up putting the car back together, plus a general disinterest/busy work schedule kept me away for about two years. With that fixed the next issue keeping me from driving is the engine harness. You can see the carnage below. Hopefully this doesn't take me another two years... Wish I could buy one.

At this point the urge to toss the whole thing is strong.

This caught me off guard, although it makes some sense. These wires start as what looks like regular 20awg then become shielded?

Blurry picture, but this is the other end of the shieded pair.

This is my previous repair. Heat shrink to insulate the wire into the connector and also cover the solder joint. I only have to do this for like 24 more wires, at both ends, so 48 joins.

Best of luck . It has been so long I forgot what years were effected . At one time there was a member selling rebuild harnesses.

Thanks. I did wiring repair as part of my job once upon a time. It was alot easier with all the proper parts available. I could use fresh pins and connectors instead of soldering replacement wire in.
