hi all I am a member over at neco. I have a question you guys might be able to help me out with.

is any one here using the apexi avc-r?
how is it for this platform?
how do you like it?
 
I believe I was the only one that had it installed on here but never could get the thing to work right. From what I remember, the instructions were in chinese. If I could have gotten it to work, Its a pretty cool unit because you can adjust boost by RPM or by gear.

Would not read the boost pressure and injector duty cycle. There are about 6 things it reads and those 2 are the ones that stand out. Needless to say, it just wouldnt regulate boost. Not sure if it was a mechanical or electrical issue. Its a pretty complicated unit.
 
While the avc-r sounds great in theory, I think its complexity is what's causing the problems.

The MUCH easier to install and use boost controller I'm planning on getting is the TurboXS "Quad Stage Boost Controller" (BC-QSBC). Four solenoids that are switch activated, and your could mount the switches in the shifter housing.

sensibly, yes. technically, no. by the looks of it, its simply a multi-stage bc. u could hit all 4 switches in the first gear if u're that fast.:laugh: then again, the purpose would be defeated. here's the quote from the link;
"NOTE: While the BC-QSBC does come with wiring harness for all three solenoids, it does not come with any switching mechanism. It is left to the user to determine how to switch on each solenoid on, whether by using a timer, or a micro-switch off the gearbox, etc"
 
so would you have to have a tune for each one of the switch's? cause from my under standing is that if you get your car tuned at a certain boost. then you add/take away boost wont it miss up the advancement or retarding of the timing?

haha. u're funny:). no. boost levels have nuthn to do with the tuning of the car. at least not for an aftermarket turbo kit on a 'non-FI-from-factory' car... sorta like ours. those solenoids will have plastic vacuum tubing attached to them. turning the knobs on each of them toward the positive or negative direction will increase or decrease boost pressure respectively. the only way to find out where they're set at is to install a boost guage. run the car at diff set boost points, and that should tellu what boost u're running in all stages. hope that helps a bit. sorry, i teach math worlds better:)
 
as it was explained to me before the tune is set up to deliver the correct amount of fuel needed based on the metered air. up the boost you are going to be metering more air and therefore the pcm will add more fuel.

so as long as you have a good tune it will be fine.

Brapple is on the money. If your car is tuned for 10 psi, then you should be good for anything below 10 psi as well. Your MAF reads the amount of incoming air and supplys a voltage to the PCM to tell the injectors how much fuel to deliver. Anything from >0 CFM to whatever CFM 10 psi correlates too, the PCM has a corresponding fuel output. And technically, the PCM should be able to extrapolate the fuel delivery for anything over what the car has been tuned for, but the tune gets more and more 'fuzzy' the higher you go.

And FWIW, I left the unit in the car and didn't do anything with it. Eventually my oil pump went on the car, spun all the bearings, broke the crankshaft in half, and sold the car to be parted out and sent to the crusher.
 
I was planning on getting that unit, and configuring it for the gears:

1st (solenoid 1-wide open (wg spring))
2nd (solenoid 2- ~5psi)
3rd (solenoid 3- ~12psi)
4th/5th (solenoid 4- ~16psi)

and in the shifter housing use the microswitches with long floppy metal lever (can't recall the term for them).

For the tune, you'd tune it at max psi. Fuel trims would adapt, so for the other solenoids you would just adjust the psi for traction -- lack of timing wouldn't matter.
