Has anyone tried or heard anything good or bad about Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic oil? I normally get Mobil 1 synthetic, but when I was at the store buying oil yesterday I noticed the Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic oil was pretty cheap for being a fully synthetic oil.

We ran it in our race cars for a little while when we thought we were getting a deal with Pennzoil. It worked just fine for us, and I've been considering switching to it for my own cars. We went back to Mobil 1 in the race cars though when the deal didn't happen.

That's good to know. That means it should be plenty good for my every-day driver. I might give it a try next oil change....

PP is good oil. I'm not sure that it is quite up to Mobil 1, but it is probably at least as good as other group III base oils such as Castrol Syntec. I have used it. It is in my Escape now, and the last two oil changes in the Contour. Both cars run well with it.

Often PP is available for $1.99 a quart with rebate and at that price is a bargain. That's less than Motorcraft from WalMart.

When PP was first introduced it was made using a new base stock. It was very similar to group IV (Mobil uses group IV). Then suddenly PP was reformulated using group III.

PP gets good reviews and has had excellent used oil analysis results as posted at www.bobistheoilguy.com
