Anyone ever replace a wheel bearing on our cars?

I'm about to takle this tomorrow or the next day. In a crash book i have it says 1.3 hours to replace. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or if i need a special tool or anything. Any help would be appriciated and sorry if this has been covered somewhere ( i couldn't find it if it was).

Yea, it is called a hydraulic press, and I bet $5 you do not have one, LOL...

So does that mean you live with your dad or that you dont have one personally but your dad does and you'll go over there and use it?

The replacement shouldnt be too bad. You will want to go grab another axle nut since they are considered once use and also have an air gun handy to pop the old one off. You'll also need a set of lock ring pliers to get the snap ring(s) off the hub.

Eh, cut him a break. There are always people who come in asking how to swap a bearing because some shop wants $200 to do one, and they ask the same question you did. The fact that you had to ask if there were special tools needed seemed to indicate that, as most people with access to a press would already know that they need it.

No.. nobody has ever done this before.. you are the first.. :D :D :D

There is a HOW-TO section.. there are HOW-TO files in it. look in there.. (I bet you could find it if you tried)
 
Just did it using the How to in the How to section..... Very Easy....

It did not show anything about doing it urself tho.... It states that you need to take it to a shop...

I took my Knuckle/hub out and popped them off of each other and then pressed the bearing out. New one goes in the exact same way the old one came out. Pressing the hub back in w/ something behind supporting the bearing and put everything back together. TA..DAH!!!!

Hope this helps...i was lucky my neighbor had a press LOL!!!

Thanks for the help, no i havent lived with my parents for 6 or 7 years. He has one at his shop, but i've never used it.

No problem... I always capitalize my "LOL" since I think it looks better than "lol"... It is an OCD thing, just like how I use "..." in stead of a period :crazy:
