another new ride...

Really nice Cougar!

The Roush suspension is a HUGE bonus. That's an excellent score - those springs are impossible to find anymore. Add a Roush or BAT stabilizer out back, and you're golden. Also, I'm a huge fan of the rear strut tower brace. The hatchback platform NEEDS a brace back there, and it makes a noticeable difference in cornering feel and chassis noise.

01-02 headlights do have better output, but they are SO BLINGY; they really go against all of the aesthetics of the car, as there's no brightwork anywhere else on it. If you add some, paint them black or something.

Black leather is REALLY hard to find; EVERYBODY on NECO is after a set. Those tan seats are exactly the kind I have; they aren't PRETTY, but they are very comfortable. In fact, that car looks to be optioned much like my own. I've got everything, but no ABS and no T/C.

Upgrade your center console to 01-02 spec; it has a real cup holder, and it's a lot more reinforced than the flimsy 99-00 console.

... It's a 2000 Mercury Cougar with low miles and dropped with roush lowering springs. ... I was overly impressed with the fit and finish of this car compared to all the Contours I've owned. These are very nice cars and I take back any back comments that I've ever made about them! ...

Very nice! Welcome to the club!

Other than the 5 speed and the Laser Red paint (mine was ATX and Rio Red) it looks almost exactly like my first Cougar.

What is wrong with the Subie in our drive way. hmmmmmmmmmmm? At least that came with an LSD.

You should get an all wheel drive Tempo. I would applaud that decision. The Minnesota winters are a perfect excuse.

Good luck finding one. I honestly would have loved a AWD 500 but those were still alittle bit out of our price range. Didn't want to spend more than $7000. The subie also is a wagon so you can fit a lot of stuff in there, AWD, dual moon roofs, LSD, great engine, easy to work on, reliable, good resale value, looks good even for a wagon, unbelievable fog lights.

Yeah, you don't see too many around. The Five Hundred is nice, but I wouldn't have wanted to pony up the extra bucks, either.

Roush springs look good on 'tours, too! I'm biased though!

Better yet, good luck finding a set.

Is that the stock rear seats? Never seen the rear seats for a Cougar. For that matter, never been in one, either.

The rear seats are more fun to look at than sit in.
It's fun to sit in them for a few minutes, and maybe a trip around the block, but after that, it's not funny anymore. :D

Those are indeed stock rear seats. The tan leather makes them look a little more unusual; most Cougars have dark gray cloth seats, and the rear seats don't look so distinct in that case.

Yes, those are the stock leather rear seats. Cloth is pretty similar though, same foam.

They are very comfortable - once you're in them. Getting in and out though, not so easy. And don't be too tall - there's a warning label on the hatch to caution the person closing the hatch not to hit the rear seat passengers on the head. ;)

*edit* Holy Crap the rear seats bring out the Cougar owner answers in a pack!

This one?

I think the seats are comfy (I have the darker cloth), but not enough head room for me back there. Have to tilt my head to the side and it's rather difficult to get out of. Though I very rarely have anyone ride back there so it's no big deal :)

Talon is worse.

Nice, my bro has a '99 Cougar V6 MTX like that one, Laser Red too, though his is not as well optioned with some weird parts bin parts (traction control was not supposed to be on the car, but is, but there's no button to turn it off) he has the cloth seats, though they are black cloth on the outside and what seems to be some sort of tan tweed or something in the middle of them. It's sort of like sitting on just wood, way too harsh for me. Good luck with it.
