Alternator!?!?

What is the advantage of using a special tool for it!?!? ...
Much easier and less risk of messing up the threads, and tie rod. Don't make me look for the thread which says this..........;) :D , you know I'll find it  .

Search Tony, SEARCH! :) But if it pops out as easy as all of mine have, then you don't need to worry about damaging the tie rods in any way. But Tony is right, don't beat the crap out of the threads or bend that sucker.

ROTFL. You are correct, some CEGers mention that they don't have to do anymore than tap it softly with a dead blow hammer and it will pop out. But some have cursed and sworn and then messed up the tie rod to no avail. I edited my previous post and added a link to jsark's thread where he did not remove the tie rod. But get the $16 tool ready from Advance or Autozone. If you don't need it, just return it. If you need it, it is worth every penny of the $16 you paid. ;)

I've spend hours prying upward and tapping this sucker. It will not budge. I think I'll just get the tool and save myself the frustration.
ROTFL again and again.

I hope you took the nut off! :help: :) Let me know how that tool works out for ya.

Reebs

I may be a noob when it comes to auto repair but I'm not that dense.

I got the tool. Popped right off first try. No fuss.

The only problem now is getting leverage on the top nut on the alternator mount.

I was just messing with you about the nut! :)

As for getting leverage on the top bolt of the alternator bracket... I used an air ratchet!!!! Just a generic pic, but something like this!

If you pull off the coil pack and take the two nuts off the engine wireing harness according to Rays how to, then you can sneak this baby right down on it. Mine just walked it right out.

Ooooo. That's fancy.

I took off the coil pack and moved the wiring harness. I had no trouble getting the ratchet on the head of the bolt. Just trouble with turning the bolt.

I just got back from Chicago today and i'll probably get another chance to work on it later today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion.
