hello all thanks for reading I have a few questions and any advice would be greatly appreciated

Regarding the alternator pigtail connector with 3 wires, is there any way of running new cables directly to the battery/ground/ and whatever else the 3rd one is for? My alternator is not charging the battery and the car was at a mechanic for over a month and they couldnt figure out why it wasnt charging.

Another question, on those 3 wires, do those 3 go plugged into one of the engine wire harnesses? or do they have seperate wires that they go connected to.

To make a long story short, friend #1 removed the engine wire harness to have it rewired, he had to go out of town so friend #2 rewired it and put it back in the car, but the alternator connection with 3 wires we werent sure if they went back into the engine wire harness or if they had seperate cables/wire connection we couldnt find them.

ANy help/advice im a noob as you all can see, thank you very much

sorry to bump this thread everyone but if anyone has any advice even small or simple, basically i would like to know if there is a way of connecting the alternator direct to battery and any steps in doing so.

Or if the 3 wire pigtail that goes to alternator, do the 3 wires go back into the wire harness or are there seperate cables for it?

Ok not sure which engine but I think the wiring is same at this point, at least the Ford CD says so? And I have a 98 V-6 that I'm familiar with, now the alternator connector the grn/blk wire pin 1 comes from the charge light on the dash which is feed from fuse F-30 7.5amp under the dash box.
The orange wire (this is important) goes to fuse 5 (15amp) in the battery junction box this goes open no charging, it's the reference voltage for the regulator.. The gray loop the single blade connection ??I think loops back into pin 2 the center wire on the three wire connector also will keep Alt from charging. The 3rd wire black is the output heavier gauge wire, it feeds to the 175amp fuse on my v-6 is located behind and below the ignition coil!!! Yes not fun to get at. That in turn routes to pos+ conn on the starter and then on to the battery pos+.
With the connector off at the alternator using a volt meter key off pin 3 should have battery voltage? If not the orange wire appears at connector C3001 which is the big connector with a bolt in the center mounted near or is it on the drive side strut tower. And schematic says it says orange and on over to the battery junction box.
The grn.blk that goes to ALT light on dash which over the years I've had some say without the light coming when key is first turn on that it wouldn't charge.
I do remember that pulling F-30 I could see the alt quite charging. Grn/blk appears at C3001 & gn/blk goes over to two row 14 pin connectorC140 left side of dash. (Manual has no picture to assist?) and thengoes to connector C808a on back of dash panel single row 16 pin. Is sure would help if you had your own wiring diagram with connector locations and pin layouts. Behind or under the dash I'm getting too old for that::rolleyes:: Hopefully you will read battery voltage at the alt connector (Key on)and/or if you ground it the bulb should light.
Got to go sinus headache please ask I'll check bad tomorrow!

thanks for your response ill print it out and show it to my friend who is a little more car savvy than me. Its a 98 contour svt im guessing duratec engine but dont really know. Id really hate to give this car up i absolutely love it but dont know if all the electrical problems are worth it.
