alternator noise

Hi
I have a 96se 5 speed duratech.The alternator has gotten very noisy.It still charges great , but whines .Has any one ever replaced the bearings on this alternator?I assume the is what is making the noise.

some alternators are serviceable. i don't know if ours are.

I did find a rebulid kit , but the housing was cracked, and a bolt broke taking it apart so i went with a reman.Its my daughters car and she only drives about 3 thousand miles a year, so I hope it holds up.Its a 3 year warranty for $107.99 at Checker.

just replace the alternator with a remanufactured unit, prefer a motorcraft unless you want to change it a lot!! why go through the work and take a chance.

personally would've left it in till it goes given how much of a pain it is to swap out. Since its not driven much I assume its not driven too far from home? its possible to drive back quite a ways on a dead/dying alternator (I know from experience... >.<)
