Alternator how to?

It looks like the entire "old forums" are not accessible at this time. Ray had a great how to for changing the alternator. I hope it can be retrieved.

I still learned from this write-up though, and the pictures are great. It all helps.

The main plug has a wire clip on it like a fuel injector - pull the clip off with some needlenose pliers and the plug comes right off.

You know that style clip is supposed to be pushed in right? Clip can stay right on the connector. For the other single wire I have a small pick to pull the plastic release. Also the fender liner doesn't need to be removed. The splash shield, yes. I undo the tie rod. Easier than the end link. When the alt is out use a large pry bar to push the 2 bushings in the alt. bracket a little so it's easier to start the 2 main bolts. Start the bottom bolt and then just swing the alt. up and put the top bolt in. No need for 2x4 etc. You guys make things difficult.

I'm not sure what you mean. From what I understand, the metal clip retains the plastic plug on the alternator, and pulling the metal clip off makes the plug easy to remove.

That's good to know. It was my first time doing this and I didn't have any instructions, so I just started pulling **** off.

It was the opposite for me - the end link was a piece of cake to get loose, but the tie rod was a pain.

This is good to know. I tried to move the bushings but couldn't get them to budge at all, but it's good to know that it's a possibility.

Thanks for dropping some knowledge on us.

Makes it easier when you grab a flat head and push the metal toward the plastic connector it sits in. It's same style as the fuel inj. clips etc found on Contours. You push down and it moves the 2 curves out of the way so the connector can be removed. You don't have to go chasing the clip when it flies somewhere by trying to pop it off.

Oohhhh, that makes sense. Thanks.

Just reviving this to see if anyone has been able to get hold of the alternator how-to, it would be really helpful to get it back up somewhere.
