I think I need the alternator wire fix done (in the duratec how to). is anyone in the se michigan area willing to do this for a nominal fee?

Its so easy, just jack up your car get underneath and do it.

Listen to rawburt he was once like you. Wanting to pay others to do his work for him. Until he got so much grief that he started tackling jobs on his own. Then he finally ended up doing everything himself before he sold his car.

Seeing you didn't even try to tackle this yourself makes me want to slap you around a bit. Try it, if you fail at it, come on here and ask for help. We will guide you as much as we can.

haha exactly!

Oh and OP, what makes you think you need the wire fix?

Oh and OP, what makes you think you need the wire fix?

I tried getting my hands up there while the alt was on, my hands are just too big. From what I understand, I can pull the wires from the top and do it on top of the engine (is this correct?).

Why do I need the wire fix? lets see, I've been through 2 reman Motorcrafts, and 2 batteries. Somethings screwing up my electrical. My battery light came on twomonths ago, I put a tester to it and saw that when the car was on, the alt wasn't getting 14.0-14.5v - more like 12-13. I ended up finding out one of my wires going to the alt has a broken clip on the end (the single wire plug). Pushed it back in, all was well... Same thing happened 2 weeks ago, I looked at the connectors, they were in... I wiggled that one and the bigger black one, and the light was off....

Tonight, I was driving around (I don't WOT anymore because that's usually when I notice the battery light come on and flicker) and the battery light flickered, then came on solid. I took a meter to the bat while the car was running and I only show 12.8v. I bet any money if I go underneith and wiggle the wires it'll go back to 14.2v.

Obviously I need new clips, but I can't work on it underneith, there's just not enough slack/room. if you guys know for sure that I can disconnect the wires (disconnect the battery as well of course prior), and just pull them up without any issues, I'll go buy the connectors and do the work myself, if not, and I have to work on it underneith, I'd rather pay someone.

Everyones so quick to say "do it yourself and save the money", and yes, money is tight, but work is a pain right now (longer hours), and I have a baby on the way so the preggo wife always has me doing housework crap to prepare for the baby. Time right now sucks.

Honestly, if I can't get this taken care of, this car is gone. I need something reliable for the baby.

Thanks for the efforts guys.

I also JUST put on new tires too (TODAY!)...

Thinking of a Mazda Protege5 if this car dont work out.

The dreaded battery light, trust me, I dealt with it for a long time. FWIW the wire fix did absolutely nothing for me. Although my issue was a battery light at high RPMs that would eventually lead to a dead alternator. I got so good at replacing these things lol. eventually I got smart and had the alternator built.

so getting it rebuilt worked? I know right now I have "loose connectors"... So I want to try that first, but if that doesn't work, I guess I'll try to get it rebuilt. It just sucks, the amount of effort, time, and money put into this car (in only 1 year of having it) is draining (to my battery! hehe).

Do you know if it's easy to run the alt wires to the top (as in, as it as simple as disconnecting them, and then pulling them straight up with no interference?)?

Thanks man

Edit: might as well ask now... where did you get it rebuilt, and how much was it? I may just get it done now while the mustangs still out before winter comes.

I got it done at a place called marves electric or something like that. Its at M59 and old van dyke, right on the corner. I brought the alternator in there and the guy knew right away what to do because he said that alot of csvt and sho guys had the same problem. Cost me 50 bucks, and I never had a problem ever again. As far as running the alt wires up through the top, I'm not thinking thats possible.

hmmm, looks like I'm going to do this... How long did they have the alt for (roughly). Thanks for the help man. I really appreciate it. It's very frustrating to drive the car and all of a sudden, see the "battery light of death" every month or so.

After reading this;

I've had 2 bad motorcraft alt's.... and I may know why (i have 2 theories)

1. The battery light flickers when I "race" so basically, anytime the car is at WOT the light would flicker, then within a week to a month, the alt (or bat, or both) were bad. I think somehow I am overloading the alternator (or the regulator on it). I don't know how this is possible without having some sort of short.

that is the exact problem that I was having. Dont bother with the wire fix, its not going to help you. I'm not sure where you live, but if its anywhere near where I posted I would take your alternator to marve. Explain to him that you have a contour svt and your alternators are giving you a battery light at high rpms. I dropped off my alternator and picked it up the next day. I really think that this will solve your problem, give it a try.

Thanks for your help man. I live in Dearborn Heights, but I'm dont care if I have to drive to there. It's not that far (my wife used to live out there).

What you said makes sense, I'm sure that's the problem. I called a ford dealership to get the new pigtals, they want $55 for the single pigtail, and $39 for the 3 wire pigtal. Horrible! I'm going to a junkyard.

do you know if the 3 piece wire has a clip on it, or is the clip on the alternator? my 3 piece wire does not have a clip on it, and it keeps coming loose. I can't see if there's something missing on either end. anyone know?
