I've been getting this code every now and then lately. It seems to happen more often when I'm getting on it and whipping into corners. I haven't had time to look at my Ford CD to see if this buisness would be mentioned in there. I'm guessing it might have to do with a loose wire or something since it is an intermident problem. I can go a few days without seeing it and then all of a sudden it will pop up for a while and then go away.

Any ideas? Thanks.

if all Ford codes are the same.

as far as I know there is no center sensor, there are two on either side of the grill.

sure you counted the code correctly?

Brian, I'm not sure where you pulled the info from but this is what it should be.....

44=RH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
45=LH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly

found it on some other forum and they reference ford probe airbag codes, so it may not be correct for the contour

I am having the same problem, code 4-5... I checked it out and there is nothing visibly wrong with it... It only comes on during hard acceleraton/breaking/cornering, just like yours... Maybe there is an electrical fault somewhere? On the old forums someone said that the battery vapors get to it, which could be a possibility... Whatever it is I can not currently seem to fix it...

I had this code years ago. Just undo the bolt, sand paper or scrape the area clean where the mount sits against, rebolt it up. Problem should go away.

I saw Brapple's post I guess I was looking for a little more detail. So is it directly behind the grille? So if I took off the grille and the drivers side headlight it would be right there? I guess I've had that off a number of times but never saw anything that looked like sensor... not to say I was looking for it though. I'll have to look there again. Does anyone have a picture?

I actually just replaced my crash sensors today because of a 45 code which kept coming up any time it was raining. Here's a photo (with the grille removed)
