A Question of Fuel Economy

Indeed it is. It says that there is more to it than engine size just like we were saying for a while.

My 3.0L V6 Five Hundred gets better milage than the 2.0L I4 ATX tour. Even at the same speed. That is though the 500 is rolling behind a semi at 65.

Bigger engine means nothing. IMO that is.

When I run 91 octane in my 1998 SVT I average about 24mpg and when I run 93 octane I average about 26 mpg. I check the mileage at every fillup and have documented this over 20 fill ups.

I have the 96 LX with 2.5 V6.

Here are the Cdn ratings for 1996, automatics.

Engine - L / 100 kms (City/Hwy), MGP (City/Hwy)
2.5L 4Cyl - 11.2/7.2, 25/39
2.0L 4Cyl - 10.4/6.7, 27/42

This was taken some time ago from Cdn Government Website. Ratings may be different in the US.

That is the most screwed up data I have ever seen, LOL

Yeah, I think it relates to and older conversion or something. If you go to conversion sites the numbers dont match up. I dont get it. Anyways in my experience the L/100km ratings were fairly accurate.

i get 16-18 mpg in town only. when i first bought the car i was getting 23-24 mixed driving. I'm pretty sure i can get 30mpg or over on the freeway. but ive always stayed about 100 feet behind a semi truck at about 60-65mph.. my old car had real time MPG's when i tested the semi truck thing for my self.

Woah, I just went 406.7 miles in my Zetec and filled up with 10.599 gallons of gas, that is a little over 38 MPG! I had never gotten over 35 before, now if it can be like this every fill up

I wanted to get to 500 miles, but gas at $3.93 soon to go up to $3.99 > than 500 miles on a tank, LOL...

Now do that 4 more times from the same pump and keep records so you can get a more accurate number.

I hate you. I get to around 300 then my car starts suffering from thirst.
