99' Contour LX A/C Problems!!

Okay, I have been using the search funtion for about two hours and I have not yet found the info I need.

Soo, First of all the fan setting only works on the highest setting, no air blows out on the other 3.

Second, the air that blows out is hot, even when its set to a/c.

What could this mean?

(I do not have much knowledge of car terminology).

the fan speed thing is a common issue ...replace the resitor, iirc. or it could be the fan switch itself.

you will need to check to see if the a/c system is charged. better yet is the compressor turning on? you would be best to take it to a shop if you don't have the correct tools.

There was a recall for the resistor, resistor wiring, fan speed switch, and wiring for the fan speed switch on earlier models. Your symptoms sound like the blower motor resistor. The high speed setting for the fan does not go through this resistor. Most cars are designed like this to always allow the operation of the defroster. It plugs in next to the heater/AC fan. The part costs about $20 and is readily available. Check the wiring that goes to it for any signs of damage, just to be safe.
