98 E0 SVT - Intermittently Speedo & Fuel Gauge INOP

I have had the same problem since I've had the car. The speedo and gas gauge don't work at all now, though.

I'd bet money that it's in that ground connection/wire somewhere. If there is body paint underneath that ground connector you won't get a good ground. Did you check all connections in that ground wire?

I heard that both the gauge for the speedometer and the gas gauge are grounded in the right-hand kick panel. I'd go mess with it now, but it's freezing (under 28F here), and seeing as I'm a Floridian, I don't even think about going outside in this weather.

I have the same issue with my 98 GL. there is no rhyme or reason as to why and when it's going to go out but I will check the grounds in the next few days. I'll post back if I find something.

For the love of God, please do. I've been troubleshooting for the last three days and have gotten friggin nowhere.

I've got a code I'm pulling tomorrow, which I believe is PO500 AGAIN, after replacing the VSS.

Trying to revive a very old thread. Has anyone with this problem found a resolution? I just bought a '98 E0 CSVT and it started doing the EXACT same thing described in post #1 of this thread. I had my alternator and battery tested at Auto Zone last week and all was good.
