Is there a way to prevent your tranny from getting the third gear grind?I kno it has to d with syncros, but I need somemore explanation on this.thanxs

your third gear syncro might be screwed, but i've also heard there is a way to "balance" the gearing in the transaxle, basically making it to were all throws on the stick are the same. I'd search in transaxle for it because there was a thread not to long ago dealing with this adjustment.

Late MTX';s only have a single blocker on 3rd gear,Vs a twin on early boxes. The early twin is a better design, more surface area to accept the load and a lower wear rate.Ask the Focus guys how quick 3rd gear crunches on the later MTX's!.Use the right lube,no ATF in any MTX.Both single and twin blockers when new ,can be coated,as I do,to reduce wear even more.To reduce wear on downshifting learn to double de-clutch or rev match...this extends the life of blockers...I drive that way all the time...it's a habit!! ;)

Yea I do but it only happens once every 2 weeks or so. It's odd. The previous owner told me about it and it hasn't changed on occurance so I live with it.

+1

For me, it's only under very fast and hard 1-2 shifts. Happens maybe once every couple months for me.

I also have rare 2nd gear grind, with frequent 3rd gear grind on my new TH trans... with the upgraded 3rd syncros. I'm running Ford honey now... might RP help?

I also think my slave cylinder is going... which is what I thought the problem was.
